February 2021 Cape Coral Fishing Report

As the water temperature and weather warmed throughout February, the fishing only improved. February was a busy month full of successful Cape Coral Fishing Charters. Most of the fishing charters opted to fish offshore but the fishing only continued to improve inshore as well.

Early in the month the pilchards arrived inshore and the bigger fish weren’t far behind. Once the bait was back, the shrimp fishing ended and it was time to get back to live bait fishing.

The inshore fishing charters were fantastic throughout the month. We had an almost endless supply of snook all month long. Frequently catching them along the edges of oyster bars and mangroves using a bobber.

We also fished for them around docks making them a little more challenging to get to the boat. In the same areas we frequently caught redfish, snapper, and small grouper too. While drifting the flats throughout the month we would usually use lures to catch trout, jack crevalle and lady fish. The trout fishing has been fantastic in Southwest Florida, frequently catching two and three at a time.

Trips wanting to bring home dinner were brought offshore for bottom fishing. The mangrove snapper were eating good all month long, often catching big ones up and over fifteen inches long.

Along with snapper we caught plenty of grouper too. Most of the grouper were too short to keep with the occasional big one being pulled up and brought home for dinner.

The weather is warm and beautiful here and the tarpon are starting to show up. Cape Coral fishing charters are filling up fast so book your April or May tarpon trips now to ensure you get a date.
