March 2021 Cape Coral Fishing Report

March is generally one of the busiest months of the year for Cape Coral Fishing Charters, and this year was no exception. After the craziness of 2020 it was nice to be back to the normal busy routine of nonstop fishing charters. The fishing in March was was completely weather dependent. The temperatures were up and down and the winds were doing the same. We were in the typical spring weather pattern for Southwest Florida. 

The Cape Coral fishing charters that were lucky enough to get the few calm days in March were able to sneak offshore and catch some big fish. We didn’t do much bottom fishing this month, but did get some excellent Bonita and shark fishing throughout the month. March is one of my favorite months to catch big sharks.

This time of year large shrimp boats anchor up along our Southwest Florida coast and as they dump their by-catch this attracts all of the predators. So typically, when you find the shrimp boats you find the big sharks. This tactic proved to be successful again and a six foot or bigger shark is always a crowd pleaser. 

A lot of the Cape Coral fishing charters in March were spent inshore, live bait fishing for snook, trout, and redfish. We would target these fish from right on the beach, to docks, and along mangrove shore lines. When fishing for these fish we would use very light tackle rods and have big exciting fights.

The fishing inshore was great, we spent many days catching smaller snook and big trout two and three at a time. Many of the Cape Coral fishing charters quickly lost count of the fish they caught. Many trips would have the opportunity to catch some big snook and redfish too. Using light tackle takes a lot of skill when the big one hits, so some were lost but a good amount were also landed. 

The last week of March brought a good warm stretch and this got the tarpon eating. We ended up jumping and catching a few tarpon as the month came to an end. 

Overall the fishing was great throughout the month and I’m looking forward to April and really focusing on tarpon fishing throughout the month.
