Cape Coral Fishing Reports

October 2020 Cape Coral Fishing Report

October was one for the record books! The Cape Coral fishing charters kept me steady throughout the month, but there were some huge highlights I won’t forget. The October Cape Coral fishing charters led to a wide variety of fish. With the water temperatures cooling down it seemed like everything was eating and moving.

October started strong with redfish. I was lucky enough to charter a group for the annual “Redfish Rundown Roofers Tournament.” This tournament is not your average weekenders tournament.

October started strong with redfish. I was lucky enough to charter a group for the annual “Redfish Rundown Roofers Tournament”. This tournament is not your average weekenders tournament. The group of 47 boats were lead by the best of the best guides the Southwest Florida has to offer. We started the morning strong catching a 30” and a 29” redfish. Quickly we were in second place on the leaderboard.

As the day wore on we slowly dropped to 4th, so we went to check other spots that all had tournament boats fishing them. We made the decision to bring it out at the original spot, knowing only huge fish would help us. We managed a couple more 30” redfish finishing a respectable 7th place out of 47 boats. It was a fun day, and a great fishing tournament out the beautiful Tarpon Lodge Resort.

In a month full of great fishing charters, one particular Cape Coral fishing charter stands out above the rest. It was mid October after a cool front. The morning air was crisp, still warm, but felt amazing as the humidity had plummeted. I loaded up with bait and picked up my client for the day, Clay Guida, a well known and future hall of fame MMA fighter.

There was a little east wind so we cruised out to the beaches of Cayo Costa and as we got into the Gulf of Mexico the water was smooth as glass. We pulled into the area I fished the day before and again, we found a school of 200 or more tarpon migrating south for the winter. There was not another boat in sight and the fish were hungry. We managed to hook 7 tarpon, two sharks, and some huge mackerel providing three hours of nonstop action.

The tarpon were starting to spread out as I got a call from another guide telling me he found a school of redfish. We decided to make the long run, about 45 minutes away, and we’re not disappointed. We pulled into the area and anchored between two other guides and casted some lines. Instantly all three rods bent over and were hooked up with redfish.

We spent the next hour there doubled and tripled up with redfish. Our very conservative estimate was 25 redfish in that time frame. The fish were still eating when we called it a day. This was definitely one of the highlights of my career and a day I’ll never forget.

I was also fortunate enough to have a week off in October and escape to the mountains of N Georgia with my family. While in the mountains we celebrated my 32nd birthday. This week has left me feeling refreshed and ready to get back on the water.

We were also able to catch plenty of mangrove snapper throughout the month of October to fill the dinner plates. As the month winds down the tarpon and redfish schools are still in the area slowly moving on their way. These fish moving is leading into great near shore fishing to include kingfish, Bonita, mackerel and sharks. Book your Cape Coral fishing charter soon for a memory the family won’t forget.
