To say 2020 has been a roller coaster would be an understatement. Luckily June was a month on the upswing. I am extremely grateful to all of my new and return clients that made June one of my busiest months to date. I had a ton of familiar and new faces spend the day fishing with me this month, most of which were last minute bookings to accommodate their last minute vacations. I think people are catching on to what I’ve been saying, the fresh air and vitamin D are a great recipe for a safe healthy entertainment option during these crazy times.
It was great being busy during this time of the year, because the fishing did not disappoint at all. Most of my fishing charters throughout the month focused on snook and redfish. We used live baits fishing around the inlets of Sanibel and Captiva Island where the big snook and redfish moved in to breed.
Each Cape Coral fishing charter caught plenty of smaller male snook with a few big females mixed in. Many of the trips lost count catching snook or at the minimum everyone on the boat was able to lad such a beautiful trophy fish.
The redfish were also plentiful this month. They weren’t bunched up in large schools yet, but we fished the mangroves on high tide and had no problem catching good numbers of redfish.
The average size redfish was around 22-25 inches with the occasional “overslot” redfish (27” or bigger) mixed in. These fish made for some great fights with hard drag screaming pulls, and big excitement trying to keep the fish out of the mangroves before they could get into the sticks and break the line.
The weather was also very nice with not much rain this month, allowing for morning and afternoon fishing charters with little interruptions. A few of the Cape Coral fishing charters wanted to take advantage of the smooth seas and run offshore. Offshore was productive with mangrove snapper, and a bunch of grouper.
We caught red grouper, gag grouper, and goliath grouper all on the same trip while bottom fishing with live bait. There was also huge schools of spanish mackerel that lead to non stop adrenaline pumping excitement as they frenzied on bait.
One well placed cast was a guaranteed hook up and strong fight ending with a tasty spanish mackerel in the cooler.
July is leading to more of the same, with great mangrove snapper, trout, snook, and redfish. book your personalized Cape Coral fishing charter today as trips are booking into August daily.
